Second man indicted in 2011 Macon murder
A second man was indicted Tuesday in the 2011 shooting death of 32-year-old Alveno Culver in east Macon.
Kelvin Dwayne Carswell, 35, is charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and three counts of violating the state's Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.
The indictment also names Deonte Marquis Kitchens, 25, who had previously been charged with murder in the case.
Kitchens is charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and three counts of violating the gang act, according to the indictment.
Culver, 32, was shot in the chest Oct. 29, 2011, while sitting inside his car in the 800 block of Little Short Street, between Cowan and Hall streets.
Kitchens is being held at the Bibb County jail without bond.
A bench warrant will be issued for Carswell's arrest. He's serving a 15-year sentence for a 2012 carjacking conviction in Bibb County, according to court records.
The indictment alleges both men are associated with the GDM criminal street gang.
Kitchens pleaded guilty to burglary in 2010 as a first offender. He was sentenced to complete a probation boot camp program and to eight years on probation, according to court records.
Carswell was convicted of burglary and criminal damage to property in Houston County in April 2011, six months before Culver was shot, according to the indictment.
