Alleged accomplice in Macon robbery attempt charged with murder
Authorities have charged a man with murder in a Sunday night shooting death in Macon.
Ramon Jerel Mims, 38, of Macon also is charged with kidnapping and armed robbery. Mims, whose address was listed as an apartment on Recreation Road, turned himself in to investigators about 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
A 20-year-old Macon man died late Sunday after he and an accomplice allegedly tried to rob three other men.
Migel Andre Diadell was shot three times as he pulled a gun on a man behind an east Macon auto parts store, investigators said.
Witnesses to the shooting told investigators that two teens had been unloading equipment from a trailer into a building next to the automotive store.
Diadell, who had a gun, and Mims demanded money from the teens, according to the sheriff's office. Diadell and Mims got into the teens' truck and forced them to drive to a bank to get money with their company credit card.
When the teens weren't able to withdraw cash, Diadell and Mims forced them to lie down on the ground before making them get back in the truck and return to the storage building on Gray Highway.
The men forced one of the teens to call his boss and demand that he bring money to the building, officials said.
When 34-year-old Brian Hinkle arrived to see about his workers, one of the teens went to meet him as Diadell got out of the truck.
Diadell started running toward them and fired toward Hinkle, who had his own gun and fired back, hitting Diadell, the sheriff's office reported.
