11-year-old girl shot in Warner Robins
WARNER ROBINS -- D.J. Bazemore was in her backyard Thursday night when she heard a loud popping noise.
She thought what she heard were firecrackers.
Nearly a dozen police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance showed up shortly afterward, Bazemore said. Police blocked off the roads in the immediate vicinity.
Children ran out of a home at Miller Drive and Diggs Boulevard and told her an 11-year-old girl had been shot, she said.
A Warner Robins police officer told Bazemore the girl had been shot once in the arm and that the same bullet may have grazed her side, but her injuries were not critical, Bazemore said.
Bazemore said the shooting happened just after dark. She estimated she heard five shots.
According to a Warner Robins police news release, police were dispatched at 8:19 p.m. to the 500 block of Diggs Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers found a girl had been shot. She was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where she was in stable condition, the release said.
No other information was released by police.
On Friday, no one answered the door at the home where the shooting occurred.
