Suspect sought in July shooting death in south Macon

Bibb County sheriff’s investigators are looking for a suspect in connection with the July killing of a Macon man.

Warrants were issued for Steve Anthony Fort, 20, on charges of murder, armed robbery and kidnapping related to the shooting death of Javoris Butler, 29, on July 21.

About 11:06 p.m. that night, Butler was visiting with friends outside Pendleton Homes at 3401 Houston Ave. when he was shot multiple times. He was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Fort is a 5-foot-10, 140-pound black male with a tattoo of a cross on his inner right arm. He may be armed, the release said.

Anyone with information on Fort’s whereabouts is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call investigator, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
