A Statesboro man faces drug charges after a sheriff’s deputy discovered the “pop rocks” in his drink weren’t candy as the man had claimed.

Warren Preston-Chandler Anderson, 30, was riding passenger in a Buick Century about 2 p.m. Sunday when a deputy noticed he wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to a news release from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.

The officer watched as Anderson took a swig of a drink in a Styrofoam cup while they were stopped there on the roadside of U.S. 221.

“Anderson claimed the substance was ‘pop rocks’ candy,” the news release said. “But further investigation determined it to be methamphetamine.”

Anderson was arrested and booked in the Coffee County Jail on charges including possession of meth and a seat belt violation.
