Florida man reaches speeds of 140 mph in chase that ends in Houston County

PERRY -- A Florida man who led a state trooper on a chase reached speeds up to 140 miles per hour before it was over.

No one was hurt in the chase, which ended when 22-year-old Kyle Hilton finally pulled over, said Georgia State Police Trooper 1st Class Jason Stone.

Stone said he asked Hilton why he didn’t pull over when he clocked him at 90 mph in a 70 mph-zone on Interstate 475 in Bibb County.

Hilton told him that in Florida that authorities don’t chase.

“He said he didn’t expect to be chased,” Stone said. “I said, ‘Welcome to Georgia.’”

Hilton was charged with fleeing and eluding, having a stolen car tag and driving with a suspended license, Stone said.

During the chase, Hilton weaved in and out of traffic and escaped a maneuver by Stone designed to force him off the road at the 134 mile marker on Interstate 75 in Peach County, Stone said.

Hilton pulled over at the 143 mile marker in Houston County. Stone drew his weapon and arrested him without further incident.
