Houston County fatal shooting suspect extradited from New York City
WARNER ROBINS — The suspect in a Houston County killing and related Thanksgiving Day drive-by shooting is now jailed in Perry after being extradited from New York City where he had fled.
Cheikh “Chucky” Howard Gningue, 19, is charged with fatally shooting Jarvis K. Rouse, 20, of Macon, once in the head at a party in the 100 block of Carter Circle near Warner Robins in the early morning of Nov. 29. Gningue also goes by the last name of Gwingue.
On the evening of Nov. 27, Gningue is accused of firing on four people inside a parked car outside a Marathon gas station and convenience store at 1501 Watson Blvd., according to arrest warrants.
A fifth person was with the group in the white car, but he was inside the convenience store when the shots were fired. The fifth person pulled out a weapon after running out of the store. He then jumped into the car that speed away after the black sports utility vehicle that Gningue allegedly fired from, according to the store clerk.
No one was hurt in what was described to the arriving Warner Robins police officer as a “shoot out” in the parking lot, according to the police report.
Gningue is being held at the Houston County jail without bond under the name Gwingue on charges of murder, felony murder, five counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime.
Because he has used two last names, Houston County sheriff’s Capt. Jon Holland expects he’ll have to track down a birth certificate to be certain of the correct one. Gningue had no identification on him when booked into the jail, Houston County sheriff’s Maj. Alan Everidge stated in an email.
Gningue’s friend, Brandon Ra’Shaud Howard, 20, of Warner Robins, the accused getaway driver in both the slaying and drive-by, also is being held without bond in the Houston County jail. He is charged with hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal.
According to Holland, Gningue had an ongoing beef with one of the people fired upon in the drive-by. Both are rival gang members and may have been at odds over a girl, Holland said. Rouse had no gang affiliation and had simply gone to a party where he had some sort of confrontation with Gningue. Holland declined to release the name of the person Gningue allegedly had the dispute with.
Gningue and Howard live on the same street in Warner Robins, according to arrest warrants. Gningue’s arrest and booking report lists a New York City address for him and his employment at an Ohio business.
Also, the arrest and booking report notes that Gningue is to be held in “super maximum” security as a known gang member and housed separately from two other men — of which only one of those is currently incarcerated at the Houston County jail, according to jail records.
