Heat moves Perry walk to park
Perry’s monthly mayor and council walk will instead be a town hall meeting for July.
For years the mayor and council walk through a different neighborhood in the city each month to give citizens a chance to come out, walk with them and talk about any issues on their minds. Many take advantage of it.
But for the July walk the council is doing something different due to the heat, said City Manager Lee Gilmour. Instead of the walk, this month the council will have a town hall meeting. It will serve the same purpose and citizens can come out and ask questions about any topic on their minds.
The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the pavilion at Creekwood Park at 111 Ida Lassater Circle.
Gilmour said the change was the idea of Councilwoman Phyllis Bynum-Grace. She represents District 1 along with Councilman Willie King, and it was their district’s turn for the walk. Gilmour said it whether August will be a town hall meeting or a walk will depend on participation Tuesday and the wishes of the host council members.
