Man shot Saturday in Macon dies

A man who was shot in the head Saturday while handling a gun has died.

Wesley Alectus Jr., 22, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Alectus, of Goose Creek, South Carolina, was serving in the Navy, Jones said.

He was at an apartment at The Anthos at Shadowood West on West Highland Drive when the shooting happened about 5:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. Two other people were there at the time.
