Milledgeville man dies in birthday party shooting

A birthday party took a deadly turn in Baldwin County early Sunday.

Just after midnight a fight broke out at the party being held on Ogden Terrace, Sheriff's Capt. Brad King said. A man pulled a 9 mm pistol and started shooting. Two males were hit and one later died. King said the shooting happened in the street in front of the location where the party was being held.

Kelvin Stanton, 27, of Milledgeville, was pronounced dead at Oconee Regional Medical Center about 3 a.m. The other person was shot in the leg and his injury is not considered life-threatening. King declined to release his name because King wasn't sure about his age and thought he might be a juvenile.

Although there were witnesses to the shooting, King said a suspect has not been identified. Many people left before law enforcement officers got to the scene, and those people are being tracked down.
