Bibb inmate found hanging in jail cell last month dies

An inmate found hanging by a bed sheet in a Bibb County jail cell last month has died.

Christopher Derek Hasty, 30, was pronounced dead at 1:48 p.m. Saturday, and the official cause of death is not known at this time.

"There will be an inquiry," said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

About 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 26, Hasty was found by sheriff's deputies hanging in his cell, where he had been alone. He was taken down, and the deputies who found him began performing CPR before he was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

Hasty had been in jail for a probation violation. An investigation into the incident by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office is ongoing.
