Unidentified young woman discovered under Macon bridge Sunday morning

A woman who appeared to be in her mid-20s was discovered Sunday morning under the Second Street bridge and lying near the railroad tracks, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

When emergency personnel found the woman about 5:30 a.m. she was semi-conscious, and she stopped breathing on the way to hospital, Jones said. She was pronounced dead at 6:19 a.m. at the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

"She is a white female with no identification on her at all," he said. She appears to weigh about 220 pounds and didn't have any tattoos.

Apparently the woman was on the bridge before being discovered underneath it, he said. Late Sunday she still had not been identified.

A autopsy is scheduled the first of the week to determine the cause of death, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the sheriff's office at 751-7500 and leave a message for the on-call investigator or call the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 877-68CRIME.
