Lautzenheiser named full-time director for midstate library system

The Middle Georgia Regional Library System’s board of trustees announced Monday that Jennifer Lautzenheiser will be moved to full-time director.

Lautzenheiser had been serving as interim director since March, after former director Kelly Lenz resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Lautzenheiser was hired in January to be the library’s head of public services. She earned a master’s degree in library science from Valdosta State University.

Lautzenheiser previously worked as assistant director for public services for the Henry County Library System and was the head of circulation for the Perry Public Library.

Hetty Jardine, chairwoman of the board of trustees, said Lautzenheiser had the most experience of the nine applicants for the position and already has done plenty of positive things as interim director.

“She was the best qualified (candidate) for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that she’s been doing a really good job with staff training,” Jardine said. “She’s aware of the importance of a library in the community. She’s got a very positive attitude, and I think the staff is ready for some stability.”

Jardine said Lautzenheiser already has reached out and worked with other community organizations, including working with Jones County in its effort to refurbish its library.
