Two dead after Houston County crash near Russell Parkway, deputies say

Two people were killed Saturday night when a pickup truck crashed into a tree along U.S. 41 just south of Russell Parkway on the northwest side of Houston County, sheriff’s officials said.

The names of the pair who died were being withheld Monday morning until their families are notified, sheriff’s Capt. Ronnie Harlowe told The Telegraph.

Harlowe said one of the victims had an address in neighboring Peach County and that the other victim was from nearby Warner Robins.

The fatal crash happened shortly before 6:55 p.m near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Feagin Mill Road, less than a mile and a half east of Interstate 75.

“According to the witnesses that were in the area, there was a pickup truck traveling northbound. ... The vehicle left the roadway, struck a culvert, ditch ... and after that struck a tree,” Harlowe said.

The cause of the wreck was not immediately known.

One of the victims died at the scene and the other died after being taken to a Macon hospital, Harlowe said.
