As thunderstorms boiled up Sunday afternoon, lightning struck a house in Byron.

Peach County firefighters were dispatched just before 5:30 p.m. Sunday to 281 Cliett Road, which is off Lakeview Road, between Peach Parkway and Interstate 75.

“The lighting strike is the cause of origin,” Peach County Fire Capt. Ryan Roberts said. “(Fire) got into the whole attic before our units arrived.”

The blaze gutted the brick home.

Fire crews were on scene for more than five hours, Roberts said.

No injuries were initially reported.
