Macon-based companies Whitby Construction, Piedmont Construction form partnership

Two Macon-based companies have joined forces.

Whitby Construction, led by Cliffard Whitby, and Piedmont Construction Group Inc., led by Scott and David Thompson, have formed Whitby + Piedmont -- a full-service construction and real estate company, according to a release.

The new company is a new general partnership that will provide construction management and real estate services across Middle Georgia.

The leadership team of the Thompsons and Whitby "will continue in their prior roles each has maintained in past operations and construction duties," the statement said.

Key services will be construction management, design-build delivery, real estate and project feasibility reviews.

"Given the historical divide that has existed in our community between mainstream and minority businesses, Whitby + Piedmont also symbolizes a convergence of expertise across ethnic lines and a more inclusive business environment," the statement said. "A priority of this team is to return Macon to a place of prominence in the region. To accomplish this, a diverse group of community stakeholders must be engaged."
