Bare Bulb Coffee in Kathleen offers great coffee in multi-purpose venue
The first thing you notice about Bare Bulb Coffee in Kathleen is how professional it looks. From its website to its humanitarian activities to its decor, Bare Bulb looks like it should be a franchise. The high ceilings, multiple tables and seating arrangements, stage area and couches give the place a expansive yet private feel. But make no mistake, Bare Bulb Coffee is a connected, local coffee shop and cafe.
While it’s not a full-service restaurant, they offer lots of food at lunchtime to go with your beverage of choice. It’s a step up from the prepackaged sandwiches you might get at a coffee chain, with real plates and even mini mason jars for their salads. While breakfast items such as pastries and quiche are served all day long, lunch items are only sold from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. daily.
We started with the chicken salad on croissant. The chicken salad has grapes and celery for plenty of crunch and sweetness. We also tried the Edison panini, which is essentially a turkey grilled cheese sandwich. While neither was spectacular, they were solidly good.
I ordered the quiche with my choice of summer salad and was glad I did. The homemade quiche was filling without being too much and the vinegar cucumbers in the tiny mason jar were crisp and delicious.
For hot beverages, we had the cafe au lait and the chai latte. The cafe au lait was a bit too watery for me; though it is a weaker drink than a latte or espresso, this particular pull did not capitalize on the flavor of their free trade, sustainably harvested coffee. The chai, on the other hand, was a frothy Christmas in a cup, just as it should be.
They have a huge menu of coffee drinks, both hot and iced, and can create just about any coffee beverage you have ever had.
We also had the cookies and cream frappe and the frozen hot chocolate and both were delicious. Even though we were about to float away after so many beverages, we sampled the gelato as well. Bare Bulb carries this summer necessity in flavors such as Roman raspberry, Tahitian vanilla and triple chocolate.
Bare Bulb has many special events during the week, such as painting classes, worship services and even yoga. They also have outdoor seating and a meeting room with audio visual equipment. Nightly musical entertainment and free wifi make it a great gathering place for both small and large groups. There’s a drive thru window as well as a small room full of books and games.
This area on Ga. 96 has really turned into a huge development for entertainment and enjoyment. If you haven’t explored out this way, take a drive down Ga. 96 and give Kathleen a visit. Bare Bulb Coffee is a great part of the fun stuff that’s going on here.
