Outlook: Mercer is led by Lawrence, the Southern Conference Player of the Year, but when Lawrence struggled Thursday and battled foul trouble against UNC Greensboro, the Bears showed their depth. Freshman KeKe Calloway stepped up with 22 points and five 3-pointers off the bench, and Means had a strong all-around game from the point. ... Furman has a diverse attack, led by Bunn, but she has plenty of help from Holli Wilkins, Carter and Ellis. ... Lawrence had two strong games against Furman during the regular season, scoring 26 points in January and 34 points in the final regular-season game of the season. The second game included Lawrence's 1,000th career point and her game-winning shot with about 10 seconds left to clinch the No. 1 seed for the Bears and a co-regular season championship with Chattanooga.
