The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets put on their shoulder pads for the first time this preseason Monday, and freshman A.J. Gray is making an early impression on the team.
Gray, a Washington County product, picked off a pass from freshman Christian Campbell and returned it for a touchdown during the team’s 7-on-7 drills.
Georgia Tech went through a two-hour practice and will be in shells again Tuesday before going to work Wednesday in full pads.
Sophomore wide receivers Ricky Jeune and Antonio Messick and freshman Christian Philpott all had long catches -- the first two from junior Justin Thomas and Phillpott’s coming from senior Tim Byerly.
