Former Mercer baseball standout Chesny Young broke a Carolina League record Sunday, reaching base in his 38th straight game for the Chicago Cubs’ Single-A affiliate, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
Young had a single to left field during the first inning of the team’s game with the Salem Red Sox, extending his streak and breaking the league record. Young entered the day leading Myrtle Beach in hitting with a .347 batting average to go along with one home run and 21 RBI.
