The Wesleyan athletics department announced late Wednesday night that it will be moving to the USA South Athletic Conference for the 2016-17 school year.

The Wolves, Agnes Scott and Salem, will make the move to the new conference from the Great South Athletic Conference.

“We are thrilled to have been accepted as a member of the USA South,” Wesleyan president Ruth Knox said. “We have a lot in common with the institutions and look forward to being good members in a competitive conference.”

The other members of the USA South are Averett (Virginia), Covenant, Ferrum (Virginia), Greensboro (North Carolina), Huntingdon (Alabama), LaGrange, Mary Baldwin (Virginia), Maryville (Tennessee), Meredith (North Carolina), Methodist (North Carolina), North Carolina Wesleyan, Piedmont and William Peace (North Carolina).

“We proudly welcome Agnes Scott College, Salem College and Wesleyan College as members of the USA South,” USA South commissioner Rita Wiggs said. “They exemplify the pillars of the Division III and USA South philosophy of academic excellence, personal development, athletic competition and sportsmanship. We look forward to their coaches and student-athletes competing in the USA South.”
