Rivals for years in the A-Sun, former players from Mercer and Florida Gulf Coast will team up to play this summer in The Basketball Tournament, a single-elimination, winner-take-all tournament, which began in 2014.
Former Mercer players Langston Hall, Jakob Gollon, Daniel Coursey, Anthony White and Bud Thomas will be teammates with Brett Comer, Sherwood Brown, Chase Fieler, Eric McKnight and Bernard Thompson from Florida Gulf Coast to enter the tournament.
Notre Dame won last year's tournament. This year's tournament tips off in July with regionals in Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Atlanta. The Bears-Eagles team will play July 10-12 in Atlanta. The Final Four will be played Aug. 1-2 and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Two years ago, Florida Gulf Coast took the NCAA tournament by storm, beating Georgetown and San Diego State to reach the Sweet 16. Last year, Mercer, which moved to the Southern Conference last summer, beat Duke in the second round for the program's first NCAA tournament win.
