Mercer guard Precious Bridges was named the Southern Conference player of the week Tuesday.
The senior averaged 26.3 points per game in three contests last week, highlighted by a career-high 43-point performance against Saint Louis on Friday. Bridges scored the final 15 points of regulation and all nine of Mercer’s overtime points to lead the Bears to an 80-75 overtime victory over the Billikens. She also added nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Bridges had 28 points and 10 rebounds against Tennessee Tech earlier in the week for her first double-double of the season. She leads the conference in scoring at 24.3 points per game, more than five points higher than the next closest competitor.
The Bears return to Hawkins Arena on Thursday when they host Georgia. Mercer will also host a Teddy Bear Toss at that game.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the gym. During halftime, a target will be placed at the center of the gym, and fans will attempt to hit the target with the stuffed animals. The three fans who make is closest to the target will win prizes. All the teddy bears and stuffed animals will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Navicent Health in Macon.
