Monticello’s Cinderella run through the GHSA Class AA Tournament came up one step short of the Macon Coliseum, with Manchester stopping the Hurricanes 63-53 at Georgia College.
The Monticello boys (21-11) trailed by 10 at halftime and by nine through three quarters, but a fourth-quarter comeback brought the Hurricanes to within four with three minutes to play. Monticello, however, came no closer, as Manchester made 10-of-13 free throws in the closing minutes.
Demarcus Addie hit a 35-footer at the end of the third quarter and hit 7-of-9 free throws down the stretch to pace Manchester with 22 points. Ashton Bonner led three Monticello players in double-figures with 12 points.
Manchester (25-5) faces the winner of Saturday’s late Crawford County-Pace Academy game in the Class AA championship game Friday.
