Windsor hires baseball, softball coaches

Windsor has hired two people to fill the coaching positions vacated by Tyler Brown, who left the school after leading the softball team to the GISA Class AA title and the baseball team to the GISA Class AA championship series in the past year.

Athletics director Jimmy Watts said former Warner Robins head coach Bill Beatty will take over as the baseball head coach, while Robert Toombs’ Leighann Newberry will take over Windsor’s softball program.

Beatty, who has 32 years of teaching and coaching experience, recently retired from his Warner Robins position after 10 years as head coach. He also has football coaching experience, serving for 11 years as the Demons’ ninth-grade head coach and also serving as the varsity’s offensive coordinator.

Newberry is a Rutland graduate who played collegiately at Gordon and Brewton-Parker. She coached at Robert Toombs for three years, leading both the softball and tennis teams.

Brown left Windsor to take over the baseball program at his high school alma mater, Stratford.
