FPD gains some ground on Athens Christian at state track meet

FPD gained ground, albeit not much, on Athens Christian in the GHSA boys track and field meet Friday, while Fitzgerald gave up a little ground.

The day’s schedule was mostly preliminaries for running events, except for the 1,600 meters (completed Thursday) and 3,200 (finished Friday).

The second-place Vikings picked up a point in the Class A private school race with Will Martin’s eighth-place finish in the 3,200. First-place Athens Christian didn’t have a runner in the event.

On the other hand, third-place Athens Academy crept closer to FPD with a fifth-place finish in the event, closing the gap from 10 to seven points between the two.

Fitzgerald didn’t have a runner in the 3,200, but third-place Greater Atlanta Christian got eight points to get past Thomasville and take over second, seven points behind the Purple Hurricane. Bleckley County moved into third with Austin Cook’s fourth-place finish
