The GHSA Region 2-AAAAA soccer playoffs opened Tuesday, with one game on the boys side yet to be played.
Houston County had its first-round boys game against Grovetown pushed back to Thursday after lightning was detected during the first minute of Tuesday’s contest.
The Bears are the only Middle Georgia team left standing in Region 2-AAAAA boys competition.
Jones County’s boys saw its season come to an end with a 2-1 loss to Richmond Academy that was decided in penalty kicks. Also, Lakeside-Evans beat Warner Robins 4-2 and Greenbrier defeated Northside 10-2.
In girls competition, Houston County was the only Middle Georgia team to win, defeating Richmond Academy 4-0.
Northside’s girls lost 3-2 to Lakeside in penalty kicks. Evans beat Jones County 3-1, and Greenbrier defeated Warner Robins 9-1.
Veterans senior Khayla Owens signed with Georgia Southwestern on Wednesday to continue her basketball career.
Owens was a four-year varsity player with the Warhawks and a two-year captain. She owns the program record for career points with 779. She scored 292 points and grabbed 208 rebounds this past season.
She was named to the all-region team this past season.
PERKINS TO SIGN
Jones County offensive lineman Trey Perkins is set to sign with Saint Mary on Thursday.
Saint Mary is an NAIA program in Kansas.
Perkins was a three-year starter for the Greyhounds and was an all-region pick last season, while also being named to the All-Middle Georgia team.
CFCA’s Corbin Ingle signed Wednesday with the Middle Georgia State softball team.
As a senior, Ingle batted .317, scored 33 runs and had eight doubles and 22 RBI. She was named to the all-region and all-state teams in the 10th grade in the GISA and the all-region and all-state teams in the 11th and 12th grades in the GICAA.
