The pairings for the first round of the GHSA basketball tournaments for Class AAAAAA to Class AA were released Sunday with a strong Middle Georgia feel.
That starts in boys play in Class AAAAA with all four Middle Georgia teams getting into the field. Warner Robins hosts Carver-Columbus, and Northside hosts Columbus. Jones County (Harris County) and Houston County (LaGrange) are on the road.
In Class AAAA, Perry hosts Cairo while Mary Persons travels to Americus-Sumter.
In Class AAA, Central and Rutland are both at home against Savannah and Johnson-Savannah, respectively, while Peach County travels to Tattnall County and Westside plays at Jenkins.
In Class AA, Northeast travels to Swainsboro, while Crawford County hosts Dublin.
On the girls side in Class AAAA, Mary Persons plays at Monroe, while Perry (vs. Westover) and Veterans (vs. Bainbridge) are both at home.
In Class AAA, Rutland travels to Dodge County, while Peach County hosts Savannah and Central travels to Beach.
Other Middle Georgia boys teams in the playoffs are Upson-Lee (Class AAAA, at Albany); West Laurens (Class AAAA, vs. Westover); Washington County (Class AAA, vs. Blessed Trinity); Vidalia (Class AA, vs. Vidalia); Monticello (Class AA at Harlem); and East Laurens at Lamar County in Class AA.
Other Middle Georgia girls teams in the playoffs are West Laurens (Class AAAA, at Americus-Sumter); Washington County (Class AAA, at South Atlanta); Monticello (Class AA, at Metter); Jeff Davis (Class AA, at Thomasville); Vidalia (Class AA vs. Early County); Macon County (Class AA at Swainsboro); and Dublin at Putnam County and East Laurens at Bleckley County, both in Class AA.
The girls games are Tuesday, while the boys are Wednesday, unless a school plans a doubleheader.
The Class A public school and private school pairings are based on the power rankings and will be set Tuesday.
