Looking ahead

Effingham County at Northside, Friday: The Eagles watched a chance at a state championship slip away in their 14th game last season. Their run to redemption begins now.

Richmond Hill at Warner Robins, Saturday: The Demons also came within a win of playing for a state title last year, and the Demons would love to be back in the semifinals with a shot at playing at the Georgia Dome.

Jones County at Glynn Academy, Friday: The Greyhounds make their first playoff appearance since 2004 on the legs of Undre Williams and Walker Juhan.

South Effingham at Westside, Friday: The Seminoles survived a test from Rutland, but they’ll need to be better this week against the Mustangs to keep playing.

Statesboro at Mary Persons, Friday: The Bulldogs worked hard to host a playoff game, and they were rewarded by getting perennial power Statesboro in the first round. The Blue Devils haven’t been as dominant of late, but they were ranked for much of this season.

Perry at Burke County, Friday: First-round games haven’t been easy for the Panthers. Perry has traveled to Sandy Creek and Cairo in its past two playoff games, and the Panthers now have to play last year’s Class AAA champion in Waynesboro.

Baldwin at Wayne County, Friday: Wayne County is a bit of surprise team to host at 5-4-1, but the Yellow Jackets swept their sub-region with wins over South Effingham and Statesboro before losing to Burke County in the Region 3-AAAA title game.

Jefferson County at Peach County, Friday: Jefferson County showed how dangerous it can be when it gave top-ranked Thomson a test Friday night.

Northeast at Fitzgerald, Friday: The Raiders’ loss on Friday to Bleckley County means the Raiders will head south to play a talented Purple Hurricane squad under first-year head coach Jason Strickland.

Early County at Bleckley County, Friday: The Royals earned the first home game in program history, but they’ll be facing a very talented Early County team that survived the brutal Region 1-AA schedule to make the playoffs.

Cook at Lamar County, Friday: The undefeated Trojans should receive a nice test from the Hornets, who only lost to No. 2 Brooks County, No. 4 Fitzgerald and Early County.

East Laurens at McIntosh County Academy, Friday: The Falcons will make their first playoff appearance since 2007, and a win would give the program its first seven-win season since 2003.

Bulloch Academy at Stratford, Friday: The Eagles have won three straight -- including wins over rivals Mount de Sales and Tattnall Square -- to enter the playoffs with some momentum.

Tattnall Square at Deerfield-Windsor, Friday: The Trojans avoided missing the playoffs for the first time since 1987 by beating Mount de Sales on Friday. Now, they get a chance to play the playoff favorite Deerfield.

Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg at Westfield, Friday: The Hornets might face a test from a solid Trinity team that beat Tattnall and Mount de Sales.

Brentwood at Gatewood, Friday: The War Eagles upset defending champion Piedmont in the opening round and will take on the Gators for a spot in the Class AA semifinals.
