What we learned
Region 4-AA is unpredictable: It’s hard to know what will happen week to week in Region 4-AA. The only certainly: Northeast and Bleckley County are both very good. Everything else changes weekly. A few weeks after Taylor County held Lamar County to 15 points, the Vikings lost by 28 to Northeast, which lost by 36 to Lamar County last week. Coming off two games in which it outscored its opponents 104-6, Macon County lost by 51 to Bleckley County.
Westside at Baldwin, Friday: The Region 2-AAAA champion could very well come from the winner of this matchup. Both teams have just one loss -- Westside to Northside and Baldwin to Washington County -- and explosiveness offenses.
Perry at Veterans, Friday: Veterans is seeking its first win over rival Perry, but this could be more worth more than bragging rights. The loser puts itself in a bad position in terms of the playoff race.
Houston County at Warner Robins, Friday: The Bears are in desperate need of a victory, but it would have to come against a very talented and explosive Demons team.
Northside at Jones County, Friday: Undre Williams keeps piling up yards, but the Jones County running back will face his biggest challenge against the Eagles’ powerful defensive line.
East Laurens at Laney, Friday: The Falcons can move closer to their first region championship since 1991 and only their second ever with a road win against the talented Wildcats.
Taylor County at Bleckley County, Friday: After playing Lamar County tight, Taylor County had a setback against Northeast. The Vikings are now the only thing standing in the way of a Lamar County-Bleckley County battle for the region championship.
Wilcox County at Clinch County, Friday: The Patriots bounced back from a road loss to Charlton County nicely with a blowout win over Turner County. The Rebels beat Charlton County, so a region championship is still out there for Wilcox County.
Marion County at Dooly County, Friday: Dooly County already has beaten Brookstone, so the Bobcats have two tough ones left beginning with Marion County. The Bobcats may go a long way towards winning the Region 4-A championship with a win over Marion County.
Westfield at Deerfield-Windsor, Friday: Westfield has lost seven straight to the Knights, and the Hornets haven’t won in Albany since 2005. If they can clear this hurdle, the Hornets could win the region championship with a win over Bulloch Academy on Oct. 26.
Stratford at Heritage, Friday: Stratford came from behind to beat Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg, but the Eagles probably are going to need to play better to win on the road against the unbeaten Hawks.
