Class AAA boys: Favors scores 38 to lead South Atlanta to title

Derrick Favors can add state champion to his list of accomplishments.

Saturday night at the Macon Coliseum, the South Atlanta standout and Georgia Tech commit led his Hornets to a 81-62 victory over Westover in the GHSA Class AAA boys title game.

The championship is the first in South Atlanta history.

Favors was the game’s leading scorer with 38 points. He also had 21 rebounds and four blocks.

Leading the way for Westover were guards Terrance Noel and Greg Green, who each had 16 points.

The Hornets never trailed, despite having to stave off an aggressive Patriots team. Entering the contest, South Atlanta had faced very few teams who had given it as much trouble as the Patriots did. Coming in to the game, South Atlanta had beaten opponents by an average 44 points per game this season.
