Class AAA girls: Carrollton locks down LFO in the second half for title

Karisma Boykin wasn’t asked to score. She wasn’t asked to rebound or dish out assists either. Carrollton’s senior court general was given only one task: defend.

Rising to the challenge, Boykin held Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe’s leading scorer Kayla Weaver to only two second-half points en route to Carrollton’s 51-31 victory for the GHSA Class AAA girls state title at the Macon Coliseum.

"When Coach (Shon Thomaston) assigned me to guard Weaver, I took it personally," Boykin said. "This was my last game and I knew I had to leave everything on the court. I didn’t even worry about playing help defense or anything. I just wanted to slow down Weaver."

After losing to LFO by six points in the championship game of the region 6-AAA Tournament, Carrollton made sure they made the needed adjustments to come out of Saturday’s game victorious. Despite trailing at the half, Carrollton used an 11-0 third quarter run to put the game out of reach.
