Class A boys: Whitefield dominates second half, defeats Turner County

With just three seconds left before the half, Whitefield Academy’s Chris Lovelace stole an inbounds pass and fed Brandon Reed for an easy bucket to tie the score. In the end, it didn’t mean much to the final score, but it was the psychological push the Wolfpack needed to jump start their second half.

Whitefield dominated the third quarter, using 16-2 run to break open a close game and cruise to a 69-53 win and a Class A boys state championship at the Macon Coliseum.

Whitefield’s Aaron McLeod and Cameron Baskerville combined for 13 points in the decisive third quarter, while sophomore Kennard Backman hit eight free throws in the fourth after Baskerville fouled out to seal the win.

For Turner County, this is its third loss in the state Final Four in the past four years.
