Class AAA girls: Carrollton brushes past resilient Rutland

Carrollton went on a 28-7 run between the second and third quarters to pull away from Rutland for a 67-51 win in the Class AAA semifinals today at the Macon Coliseum.

Rutland, which was playing in the Final Four for the first time in school history, led most of the first half, but quickly fell behind following Carrollton’s run.

The Lady Canes nearly erased a 12-point third quarter deficit when a free throw by Tae Smith cut the Carrollton lead to 45-42 at the start of the fourth quarter. But the Trojans outscored Rutland 23-9 the rest of the quarter.
