WR finishes strong in win; plus capsules of other midstate playoff games

The Warner Robins Demons struggled just a bit against South Effingham and led only 17-10 at the half, but pulled away in the second half for a 30-17 win in the first round of the GHSA 5A state playoffs.

Warner Robins, which improved to 11-0 on the season, will meet Eagles Landing in the next round.

Jarius Burnette had a huge game for the Demons with 211 yards rushing and 94 yards receiving to go with three touchdowns, while quarterback Dylan Fromm ended the game with 204 yards passing and a touchdown.

Other games

The Peach County Trojans put 38 points up in the first half against Savannah and cruised to a 45-0 win in the first round of the GHSA 3A state playoffs.

Trevon Woolfolk had three rushing touchdowns for Peach County, while quarterback Antonio Gilbert connected with Kearis Jackson for two more scores.

Peach County (10-1) will meet Pierce County in the second round.

Mary Persons advanced to the second round of the GHSA 4A playoffs with a 27-0 win over Carver, while Westside Macon advanced in the GHSA 3A playoffs with a 14-0 win over Windsor Forest.

The Mount de Sales Cavaliers, making their first appearance in the GHSA A-Private School playoffs lost to Darlington, while Howard dropped a 27-14 decision to Americus Sumter in GHSA 4A play.

The Northside Eagles and Southwest Patriots both play on Saturday.
