Area teams suffer through tough day in Columbus

Thursday was a difficult day for the area softball teams playing in the GHSA championships in Columbus.

Tattnall Square was the only one of the eight area teams to win, beating FPD 5-1 in Class 1A private school play. The Trojans later beat Eagle's Landing Christian 11-3 and will play at 6 p.m. on Friday.

FPD will face Mount de Sales at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers lost 10-2 to Eagle’s Landing Christian. Also in Class 1A, Stratford lost 6-1 to Wesleyan and will face George Walton at 10 a.m. on Friday.

In Class 6A, Houston County lost 5-0 to Creekview and will face Greenbrier at 10 a.m. on Friday.

In Class 5A, Jones County lost 3-1 to Walnut Grove and will face Carrollton at noon on Friday.

In Class 4A, Perry lost 14-0 to Marist and will face Madison County at noon on Friday.

In Class 3A, Rutland lost 8-0 to Calhoun and will face Cook at noon on Friday.
