Northside remained in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Class 6A poll after losing last week to Houston County, but the Bears are still on the outside – barely – of the top 10.

The Eagles fell from third to seventh after the 45-35 loss in front of an overflow crowd at Freedom Field.

Houston County and co-Region 6A rival Coffee were the only 6A teams in the “others receiving votes” category last week, and the Bears are alone there this week after the win.

Valdosta, which visits Houston County and Freedom Field on Friday in the regular-season finale with a playoff spot on the line for the Bears, remained at No. 2. Lee County gave the region three ranked teams, staying at No. 10, five points ahead of Houston County.

The only other movement among area teams was in Class 2A. Washington County improved one spot to No. 9 while Dublin re-entered the rankings at No. 10.

And the two play Friday night in Sandersville.

Mary Persons stayed at No. 7 in Class 4A, Peach County at No. 2 in Class 3A and Macon County at No. 10 in Class 1A.

Tattnall Square received votes in Class 1A.
