Top Five

Ware County at Northside

Series history: Ware County leads 3-1.

Last meeting: Ware County won 16-7 in 2015.

Scouting report: Head coaches Kevin Kinsler and Franklin Stephens are a combined 187-21-1, winning 90 percent of the time. The one whose team has the better night up front will add a win. Keep an eye on special teams.

Woodland at Jones County

Series history: Jones County leads 2-0.

Last meeting: Jones County won 14-7 in 2011.

Scouting report: It's the second of four straight home games for the Greyhounds, who are undefeated at home under head coach Justin Rogers and on a 12-game winning streak at Greyhound Field, which the Wolfpack are a quality threat to break.

Veterans at Howard

Location: Ed DeFore Sports Complex.

Series history: Veterans leads 4-2.

Last meeting: Howard won 36-27 in 2015.

Scouting report: With Veterans now in Class 5A, this is no longer a region game. But both teams are looking for some traction following 1-3 starts, with Howard posting its first win of the season last week over Rutland and Veterans coming off a loss to Class 6A No. 1 Houston County. Howard’s Barney Hester will be coaching his 500th game as a head coach.

Mary Persons at Peach County

Series history: Tied at 6.

Last meeting: Peach County won 18-3 in 2011.

Scouting report: What a superb matchup of tradition-loaded programs who bring the lumber. Solid running backs, improving quarterbacks and college prospects on both sides of the ball hint toward a quality four-quarter game between top 10 teams in their classifications.

FPD at Warren County

Series history: FPD leads 2-0.

Last meeting: FPD won 42-24 in 2013.

Scouting report: Last week’s 56-0 rout of previously unbeaten (and 2014 Class 1A public champion) Hawkinsville wasn’t enough to get FPD (3-0) a spot in the crowded Class 1A poll, although the Vikings are No. 1 in the GHSA Class 1A private power rating. The Vikings take on another unbeaten opponent this week in a Region 7-1A crossover.

Other games to watch

Perry at Harris County

Series history: Tied at 6.

Last meeting: Harris County won 21-6 in 2001.

Scouting report: Harris County (2-1) is 1-1 in single-digit games, and Perry took a step back in a 32-point loss to Peach County.

Northeast vs. Central

Location: Henderson Stadium.

Series history: Central leads 26-17.

Last meeting: Northeast won 7-0 in 2013.

Scouting report: Northeast has won the past six games in the series, but Central has surged since their last meeting.

Aquinas at Mount de Sales

Series history: Aquinas leads 3-1.

Last meeting: Aquinas won 52-21 in 2015.

Scouting report: Aquinas won Region 7-1A last year and finished as Class 1A private runner-up, but this Irish team is quite different following graduations and transfers.

Tattnall Square at Pacelli

Series history: First meeting.

Scouting report: Tattnall has yet to allow an opponent to score a point, while Pacelli is 0-3 for the first time in five years.

Greene County at Twiggs County

Series history: First meeting.

Scouting report: The Tigers, coached by former Washington County and Georgia star Robert Edwards, are 3-0 and the Cobras are 2-1.

Hancock Central at Wilkinson County

Series history: Wilkinson County leads 14-6.

Last meeting: Wilkinson County won 22-20 in 2014.

Scouting report: The Warriors have won eight straight in the series but are 0-3.

Central-Talbotton at Crawford County

Series history: Central leads 10-6.

Last meeting: Central won 30-21 in 2015.

Scouting report: Crawford County has played only one game, thanks to Hurricane Hermine, while Central lost 55-6 to Taylor County last week.

Southwest at Spalding

Series history: Spalding leads 2-0.

Last meeting: Spalding won 40-0 in 2005.

Scouting report: Spalding (2-1) won 10 games last year and gave Class 5A No. 8 Griffin all it could handle in a 53-50 loss to start this season.

Westfield at John Milledge

Series history: Westfield leads 19-8.

Last meeting: Westfield won 28-14 in 2015.

Scouting report: The dominant and unbeaten Trojans anticipate breaking a six-game losing streak to the winless Hornets.

B.E.S.T. Academy at Westside

Game time/location: 2 p.m., Saturday/Ed DeFore Sports Complex.

Series history: First meeting.

Scouting report: Westside comes off a bye week to face a 1-3 B.E.S.T. Academy team that has gone up against three Atlanta-area private schools with a combined 8-1 record.
