Although Marshall Morgan was listed as the primary kickoff guy, Collin Barber assumed the role of Georgia's kickoff specialist to start Saturday's season-opener against Louisiana-Monroe.
Barber handled the responsibility well, hitting four of his first five kickoffs for touchbacks.
Georgia didn’t look at Barber to do kickoffs until its final scrimmage of the preseason. According to a source, Morgan tweaked his groin in that scrimmage, which caused the coaching staff to look at Barber. Barber impressed the coaching staff and has practiced at the spot since.
Morgan's groin is fine, evidenced by the fact he’s still handling extra points and field goals Saturday. His injury isn't anything major that should keep him from his placekicking duties. However, having Barber handle kickoffs is a way to lighten Morgan’s load for this game.
