The Mercer football team opens practice Wednesday morning at Five Star Stadium.
The Bears return 10 starters on both sides of the ball after going 6-6 overall and 1-6 in the Southern Conference last year, their first season in the conference. Mercer expects 95 players to take part as it begins 13 practices before the start of classes.
“It is an exciting time of year with the team reporting to campus to begin preparing for the 2015 season,” Mercer head coach Bobby Lamb said. “The core of our team has been in Macon the last five weeks taking summer classes and going through offseason workouts, but we are ready to get the pads on and starting playing football again.”
Mercer will work out in helmets for two practices then move to shells (helmets and shoulder pads) Friday and Saturday before its first full pads practice Sunday.
