The Georgia and Georgia Tech golf teams will be playing in the NCAA championship May 26-30 in Toledo, Ohio, after strong performances in the regional round.
The Bulldogs earned their spot in the NCAA championship with a second-place finish in the Southeast Regional on Saturday. Georgia finished tied at 23-under-par 829 with Arizona and South Carolina and behind Central Florida, which won the regional at 34 under.
Georgia sophomore and Stratford product Russell Henley had his best round of the tournament with a 4-under 67 to finish tied for 19th. Henley’s final round included three birdies, one eagle and one bogey.
Former FPD standout and Augusta State freshman Taylor Floyd matched Henley with a 67 in the final round. Floyd had six birdies and a double-bogey to finish the tournament at 2 under, tied for 27th.
Augusta State didn’t advance to the NCAA championship, finishing 11th in the regional.
Mercer’s Bill Jones III, playing as an individual, had a 70 in the final round. He ended the event tied for 40th at 1 over.
Georgia Tech finished the Central Regional at 16 over, tied for third with Ohio State. UCLA won the regional at 1 under
Cameron Tringale led the Yellow Jackets at 2 under, good enough for a tie for third.
