Alright, folks, welcome into the blogosphere and into the sunny, scorching Georgia morning sun. I've got a front-row seat for this afternoon's Tech-NCState noon kickoff (aired on ESPN), and I must say, I've always enjoyed this view of downtown Atlanta. Wish more of you could see what I see up here. Facing east, the Bobby Dodd Stadium pressbox faces numerous Atlanta landmark buildings, including the AT&T building directly across the way, and the Westin hotel down in the southern sky. A day like this makes you appreciate Saturday afternoons in the South.
OK, enough of my romanticized ramblings. Let's get to football.
Order of business No. 1: The Yellow Jackets are wearing GOLD. I repeat, unless they pull a Georgia and switch into new jerseys before kickoff, they are wearing GOLD tops with with pants that feature a prominent gold stripe. The uniforms were last worn during Georgia Tech's overtime win over Wake Forest at home last year.
Some of you may be confused as to why the Yellow Jackets are wearing gold when the game was dubbed a "white-out" months ago. Well, that's because since the Yellow Jackets buck most national customs and wear white for home games, they have to appeal to all their home opponents before the season about wearing the white tops for that respective game. Last season, Wake Forest denied their request to wear white, as did North Carolina State this season. (At one point, I had heard rumblings other teams on this year's schedule had denied Georgia Tech's requests, as well. Haven't heard anymore movement on that front, though.)
So, North Carolina State is in white, while the Jackets are warming up now in their white tops. It was between either that or blue (they've lost the last two games they wore blue...2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl and 2006 ACC championship).
Now that the garb gossip is over, here are the pertinent lineup changes to be aware of today:
-Sr. Austin Barrick will start at offensive tackle for Nick Claytor. Claytor will back up Barrick and fellow starting tackle Phil "Philthy" Smith.
-Sr. A-back Lucas Cox MAY start at A-back for soph. Orwin Smith. The start depends on where the Yellow Jackets' field position is when they first take the field on offense.
-R-Fr. center Jay Finch is OUT for the game for an unspecified reason. The backup will be replaced by Ray Beno, a young lineman who hasn't played all season for unspecified reasons. He wasn't part of the dressing roster for the first two games. Beno will play behind starter Sean Bedford.
-Sean Poole will punt, replacing Chandler Anderson.
Joining Joshua Nesbitt and Brad Jefferson as team captains today will be linebacker Anthony Egbuniwe and Lucas Cox, maintaining the trend of all-senior captainships.
