Good Saturday afternoon, boys and girls! I'm live from Clemson, S.C. inside Death Valley (aka Memorial Stadium), where I'm still livin, kickin and breathin and no, I'm not screamin (well, trying to contain my excitement over my Northwestern Wildcats and their potential upset over Michigan State right now).
I've actually been sitting here for a little while already. All the usual Georgia Tech media is here, too. You've got to love a game where the trip is literally just up the road and doesn't take long to get to. In fact, all of us were expecting such bad traffic around Clemson that we left ridiculously early and breezed straight to Memorial Stadium. So needless to say, we've all just been sitting here watching folks get the stadium set up. The orange balloons were brought in a while ago, and boy, there are a lot of them.
OK, now let's get down to business. Just browsed over Georgia Tech's pregame flip card and there are no real changes or surprises to it.
Defensive end Jason Peters will get the start today, playing after suffering a sprain last week to an undisclosed part of his body. Offensive tackle Phil Smith also will get the start after sitting out last week with an ankle injury.
~Keep an eye on Joshua Nesbitt today. The Yellow Jackets quarterback is just 44 yards from setting the ACC rushing record for a quarterback. Former Clemson quarterback Woodrow "Woody" Dantzler holds the current record. But of course, you knew that after reading my story today on what breaking the record means to Nesbitt.
~Nesbitt also is 282 yards away from becoming just the eighth player in NCAA history to rush for 3,000 yards and to pass for 3,000 yards in a career. He probably won't get there today, but he could pull very close to that feat by the end of the day. So keep your eyes peeled in two (when the Yellow Jackets return after a bye week) and three weeks for that mark to be reached, too.
Alright, before I let you go, be sure to check out the video below. These are your 5 keys to a GT win over Clemson today (unfortunately, it's rather abridged because of a few technical difficulties uploading Part 2 yesterday). But here are my 5 Keys:
1. GET BETTER PROTECTION FROM THE O-LINE
2. GET JULIAN BURNETT AND REST OF LBs ROLLING AGAIN
3. CONTROL THE CLOCK; TICK TIME DOWN
4. GET NESBITT GOING EARLY TO GET THE RECORD OUT OF THE WAY
5. PLAY AS UNDERDOGS AND FORGET LAST YEAR'S WINS VS. CLEMSON EVER HAPPENED
