SPORTS BRIEFS: GMC student qualifies for national shooting team

GMC student Helen Oh is headed to Granada, Spain, on Saturday to represent the United States in the 51st International Shooting Sport Federation World Championship.

Oh, one of 82 shooters and members of the national team, will compete in the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior event.

Oh earned the opportunity to represent the United States by competing in the USA Shooting National Junior Pistol Championship at Fort Benning in July, finishing second.

Oh has also competed several times in the Junior Olympics at Colorado Springs, Colo., and in the Winter Air Gun Championships, also held in Colorado Springs.

Georgia College opens volleyball season on road

The Georgia College volleyball team and head coach Gretchen Krumdieck will open their second season on Friday at the Falcon Classic in Misenheimer, N.C.

The highlight of the first season in program history was the first match, with a crowd of more than 2,500 watching Georgia College beat Fort Valley State.

The Bobcats will return 11 players from last year’s squad and will have the first senior in school history with Lauren Johnston.

Georgia to play Mercer twice in baseball

Mercer will play Georgia in a home-and-home series in baseball in 2015.

Georgia released its schedule on Thursday, and a visit by Mercer is among 33 home games.

The Bears head to Athens on March 17, and Georgia makes the trip to Macon a week later.

Georgia takes on Georgia Tech on March 31 in Athens, April 14 at Georgia Tech and May 12 at Turner Field.

The Bulldogs also have non-conference home games against Florida State, Kennesaw State and Clemson.
