Georgia Tech loses close one to Florida State to fall from ACC tournament

ATLANTA — One day after upsetting Clemson in the opening round of the ACC tournament, Georgia Tech’s winning ways ended on a last-second prayer. With freshman guard Iman Shumpert’s runner bouncing off the rim, the Yellow Jackets lost to Florida State 64-62 in the second round.

With their win, the Seminoles advance to Saturday afternoon’s semifinal contest against North Carolina. Tipoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.

As was the case Thursday, Lewis Clinch was once again Georgia Tech’s leading scorer, as his 25 led the Yellow Jackets in the loss. Twenty-one of his points were the result of 3-pointers. From behind the arc, the senior guard was 7-for-19.

Georgia Tech was also led by sophomore forward Gani Lawal who had 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Shumpert also finished with 11.

For Florida State, senior guard Toney Douglas was the spark, scoring 25 points en route to the win.
