An attempt to crawl underneath a train resulted in a mother losing her leg and her 1-year-old son’s arm being cut off in Clayton County.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 28-year-old Kate Brown told authorities she was walking home Thursday afternoon with her three children when they came across the train. She decided they would take the easier route by going underneath the train that was stopped at the time.

Two of the children safely made it to the other side of the tracks, but a railway car started moving while Brown and her 1-year-old son were underneath, causing their limbs to be pinned and severed by the train’s wheel.

The condition of Brown and her son was unknown at the time of the AJC report.
