The vacant state House District 146 seat, previously held by former Majority Leader Larry O’Neal, drew three qualifiers Monday.
All three candidates are Republican. Shaw Blackmon is the president and CEO of National Bank Products in Warner Robins; former Houston County District Attorney Kelly Burke now owns a private law practice; and Larry Walker III is the president and CEO of the Walker Insurance Agency in Perry.
House District 146 covers a portion of Houston County and includes Warner Robins and Perry.
Qualifying will continue until noon Wednesday, according to the Houston County Board of Elections.
Wednesday also marks the last day to register to vote in the race for the state House District 146 seat.
A person must be registered on or before Wednesday and must live in the district to vote in the special election July 14. Any changes of name or address also must be made by Wednesday.
Early voting will take place from June 22 through July 10.
Registration forms are available at the Board of Elections Office (801 Main St., Perry), the Houston County Annex Building (200 Carl Vinson Parkway, Warner Robins), the Centerville, Perry and Warner Robins city halls, and all public libraries.
Voting registration also can be completed online at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov.
