Former DA Kelly Burke announces for House 146 post

Staff report

Former Houston County District Attorney Kelly Burke announced on his Facebook page Friday that he will be seeking the House District 146 seat.

The announcement said in part:

“I’ll be setting up a Facebook campaign page so that campaign stuff doesn’t bombard you every day on my personal page. ... Governor Deal has set a July 14 election date, two short months away. I’m hoping it’s pretty obvious where I stand on the issues, I complain enough about the “small government” GOP that one ought to have a sense of where I think we need to take state government. If you can support me, I’d love to have your help.”

Burke was district attorney in Houston County for 14 years before returning to private practice.

Other announced candidates for the post being vacated by Larry O’Neal are Houston County businessmen Larry Walker III, president and CEO of Walker Insurance Agency in Perry; and Shaw Blackmon, president and CEO of National Bank Products in Warner Robins.

Efforts to reach Burke on Friday for comment were unsuccessful.
