Centerville City Council ends year on quiet note

CENTERVILLE -- The City Council spent its last, brief work session of the year hearing thank-yous from business and resident citizens and privately discussing future real estate acquisitions and personnel matters.

Mayor John Harley read a letter from Houston County Galleria mall representatives thanking the city and its police and fire departments for participation in a recent mall public safety awareness event which included child car seat fittings, child identification kits, law enforcement and fire department vehicles and equipment on display.

Harley also read a note from a Centerville senior citizen thanking the council for installing a handicap, self-opening door at City Hall. The $7,000 door has been installed about two months, said Mike Brumfield, superintendent of utilities and the city’s director of operations.

The council discussed real estate and personnel matters in a closed-door, executive session at the end of the regular work session.
