Former Gov. Roy Barnes, who’s running for governor again this year, will be in Macon on Thursday evening for a political rally, event organizer and Macon City Councilwoman Elaine Lucas said Tuesday.
The event runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Studio 32 in the Shurlington Plaza Shopping Center and is open to the public.
“It’s open to anyone who wants to come and meet the governor and ask questions,” Lucas said.
Lucas, a veteran Democratic candidate and operative in Middle Georgia, called the event “the beginning of an organized (local) effort to elect” Barnes, one of several Democrats seeking the party’s gubernatorial nomination.
Other party candidates include Attorney General Thurbert Baker, Dublin state Rep. DuBose Porter, Macon native and former Georgia National Guard commander David Poythress and Ray City Mayor Carl Camon.
